History: Lancaster was first settled in 1800 near the Hocking River. German immigrants were using the Zane’s Trace trail to travel from Pennsylvania and ended up staying. By 1812 the community had grown to 350 residents and served as the county seat. In 1854 the railroad came to town spurring even more population growth. Today the community has a small town feel, with more than 35,000 residents but is home to a thriving business population including the Anchor Hocking Glass Company.
