What’s Happening in Downtown Columbus, Ohio
History: Columbus was named in honor of Christopher Columbus. Ohio’s capital city was founded on February 14, 1812, as residents carved out homesteads out of a deep forest. Today the city and suburbs surrounding downtown are home to more than 1.7 million people.
Population: 822,553 (all of Columbus)
Cost of Living: Median household income is approximately $45,000 and the average home sale price in 2016 was $124,000.
Schools: Columbus City Schools.
Taxes: Some of the suburbs like Bexley, Upper Arlington, Westerville and New Albany have a much higher tax rate than downtown Columbus.
What to do Downtown: We love rowdy fun as much as the next family, so events like Red, White and Boom are right up our alley. But we’re also big fans of the Columbus Museum of Art. It’s a good-sized museum with national exhibits and tons of local events – there’s something for everyone at CMA. In 2015 CMA even sponsored a Master Lego Design challenge.
