Facts About Carroll, Ohio

History: Carroll Ohio was founded at the intersection of the Ohio and Hocking Canals in 1892, which served as the major water-based highway for the shipment of goods and services before the automobile came into vogue. The canal systems allowed farmers to ship and sell their harvest around the state. Today Carroll residents still farm and rolling corn, wheat and soybeans ride the flowing hills of this small community.

Population: 521 residents in around 200 households and the population are trending upwards.

What’s it like to live in Carroll: This is a low stress; laid back community where kids still play outside in the yard and the only sound in the morning are farm tractors. For Columbus commuters, this is an easy drive, and having a city income in a rural community allow you to have a lot more, for a lot less money. People are friendly here; they still wave when you drive by. Covered bridges and old growth forests dot mostly farmlands with rolling hills. Outdoor activities abound in this area, from wildlife nature preserves to metro parks.

Schools: For such a small system, the Bloom-Carroll Local School District is putting up some big numbers for academics and sports. The system ranks 106th in Ohio, and earned a silver medal for academic achievement nationally in 2016. They scored 97% in English and 96% in Mathematics in 2016. They’ve also won the state baseball and softball championships over the past few years.
